Tonight's Homework 8/25

Good afternoon,

Today we kicked off our first official day of learning within the content areas.  In ELA we are beginning our first unit called "Change".  You will receive a letter in family folders explaining the unit.  In Social Studies, we began discussing "Where in the world are we?"  I posted a picture on Twitter of students working together to correctly identify the city, country, county, continent, and state.  In Math, we began our first lesson.  Students learned to identify equal groups and translated math models into multiplication sentences.

Please remember to sign agendas daily.  Here is a copy of the homework students should have written down in their agenda:

Explanation of homework:
NASA Doll Project-  This is the paper instructions.  Students were given just the instructions to review with their parents.  I wanted students to have the time to ask questions and converse about this project with their parent before given the actual template.  I did not however go over this in class.  I will talk more about this Friday when I give the doll template.

Math Lesson 1 Homework: In your child's binder, you will find 2 math packets.  The packet labeled "Problem Set" was completed in class.  The packet labeled "Homework" is what students will do at home.  Students circled problems that they are to complete.  Problems 1a, 1b, and 1c are mandatory.  If students wanted to challenge themselves, they could complete problems 1d and 2 as well.  If they wanted to go above and beyond and impress me, they could complete problems 3 and 4 as well.  If at any time you begin to feel your child and/or yourself feeling frustrated with homework, just stop and email me so that I know to work with your child in the morning.  I told my students, "I would rather you stop, go to bed and be rested the next day than get frustrated and be tired the next day."

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to send me an email.
